‘The Weave’ is a unifying lighting system that weaves together city infrastructure in a spatial, playful and engaging way. Our design is inspired by the vision of ‘London as a Network’ of transport routes, attractions and most importantly people and the paths they carve throughout the city. One key driving force for this scheme is ‘contrast’ - although this is a lighting project we understand we must also preserve dark spaces surrounding Oxford Street as this will also create hierarchy when approaching the Weave of lights. The system allows for different treatments to key gateways and junctions – thus illuminating the wider district. The proposal incorporates a lightweight cable structure with integrated LED linear lights and spotlights. The light colours will be flexible creating a dynamic and changeable environment – allowing the lights to be seasonal and appropriate all year round.
